Reflections on Psychological Fitness
Psychological fitness has to do with resilience as helpers we asked to interact with clients who come to us with a myriad of issues. We must be grounded and stable enough to help our client without there being the possibility of counter-transference as seek to assist our clients in finding a better version of themselves. This means we must engage in appropriate self-care in order to manage and avoid compassion fatigue. The counselor's mental health is just as or more important than the client's mental health because we can find ourselves sitting with many clients over the course of our careers.
