Empathy
As counselors we must possess the ability to understand our clients in whatever state they are in. We must have an unconditional positive regard for them as they express a variety of emotions with being judgmental all while maintaining appropriate professional and Ethical boundaries.
Growth
I have always been a person who seeks to help those in need. However, I have learned the importance of understanding the why a person is in need. My understanding and empathy of those struggling with mental health issues has grew a hundred-fold. Because I now see what is could not see and I know better understand what I did not understand.
True Empathy and understanding is not in seeing where a person is but in placing yourself in the person's position seeking to embrace what they have been made to feel
